Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Why should I be a part of a Distributed Journey?
A:
First of all, going on a Distributed Journey is one of the main ways to love God
and love others. In Luke 10:27 Jesus says "Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and
with all thy soul and with all thy strength and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself."
But also by going on a Distributed Journey you “ stretch” yourself out of your comfort zone,
allowing God to work in your heart as He wills and thus be transformed by the Power of the Holy
Spirit to serve Him by serving others. Romans 10:14-15 says "How then shall they call on Him in
whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how
shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach, except they be sent? As it is
written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace and bring glad tidings
of good things!" Be a person that brings peace and hope to those that are in
need!
Second, because it is an act of obedience to Jesus Christ. In Matthew
28:18-20 Jesus says "All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and
teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and lo, I am with you always,
even unto the end of the world." and in Acts1:8 Jesus says "But ye shall receive power, after that
the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all
Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth."
Q: How do I register?
A: The best way to register to a Distributed Journey is
here. You can also put a
written note (including with your name and contact information) in any of the offering boxes
at Northland Longwood (Dog Track Road) or at the reception desk of the site where you normally
worship to the attention of Patti Harshey.
Q: How do I raise money for the trip?
A: The Distributed Journey Team Leader can help you with fund raising ideas for your trip. If
God is calling you to go on a Distributed Journey,
HE WILL
provide the funds needed for you to go. Jesus says in Matthew 6:33 and in
Luke12:31 "But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things
shall be added unto you." Proverbs 3:5-6 says "Trust in the Lord with all your heart; and
lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and he will make your
path straight."
Q: What special gift or ability should I have?
A: You don’t need any special ability or gift, just the ones that God gave you. In other
words: just be available and God
WILL
equip and use you.
Q: What is the minimum age to go on a DJ?
A: That depends on the mission, but there are opportunities for all ages to serve
on a team: Families with children of all ages; middle and high schoolers with or without
their parents; adults only (18 years of age and above). The Distributed Journeys'
Administrative Assistant can give you that information and the age minimums are listed on the
website along with a description of the mission trip.
Q: Do I need a passport?
A: Yes, for international missions. No passport is required for domestic mission
trips.
Q: Who should I contact if I have more questions?
A: Contact the Team Leader of the trip in which you are interested (his or her email
address is listed on the Journeys page next to the trip location and date, or contact the
Distributed Journeys' Administrative Assistant, Patti Harshey, at
patti.harshey@northlandchurch.net or
407-937-0573.
Q: How long are the trips?
A: The trips can range from 4 days (national DJs) to 16 days.
